As defined by the Census Bureau, the Southern United States (or The South) includes sixteen states: Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia (including the District of Columbia), Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
